Sound of the Week: Summertime Sadness

Welcome back to our Sound of the Week Blog, where we highlight royalty-free stock music and sound effects that reflect the everyday moments happening all around us. This week, we’re focusing on sad music for those hazy days when you just need to channel your inner Elliott Smith.

Despite the promise of sunshine, beach days, and barbeques, there is something about summer that, at its core, can be very challenging. During these warmer months, work begins to slow, school lets out, and vacations begin. The rhythm and schedule we carefully crafted over the past eight months is broken, and friends begin fading in and out as they come and go on break. Students graduate from high school or university and leave the comfortable cocoon of adolescence, as empty nesters and new retirees begin to contemplate their own next steps. It can be a very confusing time that leads to questions about one’s worldly purpose and direction in life. As beautiful as the season is, it can also be exceptionally polarizing. For that reason, we’ve decided to pull some melancholy music for our sound of the week–if you need some sympathetic symphonies to get through Summertime S.A.D., we’ve got you covered.

The bittersweet, sad music audio track we’ve embedded here in this blog is a perfect representation of the feelings we talked about. This track is bitter sweet. It’ is the silver lining of the sad music genre. Yes, it is a little somber, but it carries this hint of happiness—a touch of turning tides. It acknowledges change, but does not dwell. It is a sad song, but it is not a depressing song. And it is perfect for anyone attempting to capture those feelings.
